Seriously get the winter ride. I picked up a 92 escort with 60k miles on it for $500 last feb. The front end was wrecked but a trip to the juckyard fixed it right up. Now it is 2 tone. The hood and left fender are red and the rest is tan. That is a real 2 tone paint job.but your in TN...do you even get snow there lol.

A good coat of wax on the contact surface inside the jamb would probably help keep the seals from sticking to it too. Make sure whatever you lube the weatherstrip with isn't a contaminent to paint though(ie. silicone). Off the topic I also agree that Escorts make killer winter beaters too, I have a 93 with over 300 thousand Km on it and the A/C still works for the summer too.

You can use whatever you want, wax, oil, blah blah blah. Water gets in there and freezes the door shut it's not going to open, don't matter what you use. What I use and WORKS EVERYTIME, is a simple towel hangin' out the door. Pop the door, and grab the towel to open the door, and it'll open everytime!!! Some ice will break off in the process, and hopefully you don't have any plastic door trimming, but it'll open the door, if that's your main objective. Even with a 1/2" of ice covering the door.
