Not trying to over take the thread here, but would it be the same problem on an automatic w/ a one piece that clanks every time i put it in reverse? or is that more tranny? And the higher the engine is idling.. the louder it clanks.Mike
well, auto trannies are just big metal grinding machines filled with the equivalent of dishwashing liquid. Because they are fluid operated, I'd also suspect the u joints for your clank.
Although it could be axle wrap, leave your foot off the brake and see what happens when you put it in gear, if the back tires jerk really bad but the clank disappears, its probably just the leafs taking up the driveline slack. If it still clanks, check the u joints.
