North Carolina law says that for cars, tint limit is 35% for all windows. Trucks and suvs have to have 35% on the front glass and dark as you want on the rear glass. Windshields of all trucks and cars can only be either 5 or 6 inches, which often shorter than the AS1 line. They do allow 3% percent margin, so you have to be less than 32% before you fail inspection. Now I have no idea what the "law" will call vehicles like the Scion XB or the Subaru Forester, if those are cars or suvs.

Maybe it's just me but why would you even spend hard earned money on something that you might have to spend even more hard earned money on getting it removed? If there is a legal limit why would you go past it, no matter how bada$$ it looks?

Because usually it's only 10 or 20 bucks more to upgrade to limo, and if your ride has plenty of other distractions it's worth the risk.
Most of the time cops don't notice on a ride that does not have a bumper or has tail light issues. Shaved, etc.
Stock rides are even safer to tint limo because they are less likley to be pulled over for tint alone.
Some people say we customize for attention, in a way we do. It's just the price you pay for doing what we do.
So in reality it's not that big of an investment. I don't think I have ever paid over $150.00 to have any vehicle tinted.
Some people even tint the windshield, and put an additional strip at the top to make it look the it's not tinted all the way down.
Besides, a fool and his money are soon parted. Everyone has a right to take that chance.
Also, it's usually a "fix-it" ticket which means if you prove you removed the offending item, it doesn't cost the original ticket fine. Usually reduced, sometimes no fine.
They are considered non moving, at least it used to be.

I'm speaking of my area, Central Florida. Daytona, and smaller municipalities are more likley for this sort of harrassment.
In Orlando, it's rare, because they actually have REAL crimes to attend too. When I travel to say, Daytona Beach it's more of a possibility. I would say the same probably goes for most areas.
On top of that, you were a rolling infraction from what you just said. AND to top it off you live in a state where RADAR DETECTORS ARE ILLEGAL.
VA is a tough place to DRIVE. I would say you state is a worse case example.

That's why if I get pulled over at night I turn my interior light on and put both my hands on the window ledge. Hey it sounds cheesy, but a lot of cops respect that and are a lot less hard on you, but then again, alot of them are still d*!ks.

I don't know guys...being from New England I can say that Florida has a VERY Leniant custom law program. In NH (where I started modding) almost everything, from altered exhaust to altezzas, to tint, is illegal. You aren't even supposed to go more than 2 sizes bigger than stock on rims, but people still do it. The penalties in NH are that if it's a first offense or so, you get a DE tag (Defective Equipment) and you bring it back fixed and get the ticket signed off on. If it's a repeated offense, they eventually pull your registration and won't let you drive anymore.
Y'all should consider yourselves lucky for having as many modding rights as ya' do!!! Some states make it more of a challenge than it's worth.
BTW, NH's law is the fronts can't be any darker than 35% on the front windows, and dark as you want on the backs...but it's pretty much whatever Andy and Barney deem to be "legal" when you're sitting on the side of the road, and if they say it's not, they'll hand you the razor blade right there and get rid of it while they watch. It sucks.

one thing every one must learn is dont complain just take the ticket from the cops because when you complain the laws will change and they will not benefit you.so either take your ticket and be on your way or bust out your doctors note
