i see where they are coming from though. but ya it sucked trying on the first truck but now its no prob on the new ride. you just have to take in in the ass on the first one and hope to get a feature or two and from there on you just have to sweet talk the rite guys

I can totally understand what you are talking about when you say that it's harder for builders to get products sponsored.I have never purchased a product that I saw on T.V. or some other form of advertising without hearing about it first. Unfortunatly I think that T.V. does have a big impact on the general public... I know that for the most part, people on SSM have some sense when it comes to fixing up their vehicles and don't really rely on T.V. shows or some other form of advertisment for advice. But you figure, for every person on here there is probably 20 people out in the world that have no idea about any sort of "true" customizing and buy what they see. There are plenty of people that go through Pep-Boys or Auto Zone with a magnet and put on every bolt-on part they can find just because they saw it on "Pimp my ride" or Fast and The Furious... So in a nut-shell, I think T.V. is actually working to their benifit... which sucks for us!!I believe that company's are curious if your vehicle is going to be at SEMA just because of the fact there isn't a peice of shit vehicle there. That way they kinda have the assurance that you DO have a quality ride and people are going to see it. But it defintally is easier if do have a vehicle in Las Vegas the first week of November...I know my :2CENTS: may be kinda bias because I do have sponsors for my truck but it is not impossible. I have only been doing the "business" side of the truck industry for about a year and half now and trust me, it's not all it's cracked up to be all of the time. Sure it is nice to get free parts and fat discounts, but it is A TON of work also. Once you get sponsors, you get deadlines, and if you don't meet the deadlines you have explain why and for what reason.... And then you get a new deadline.

I think Chris summed it up best
But on the serious note it has become more difficult simply because the market is flooded with all kinds of ppl seeking sponsorship and companies have to accurately deduct who will get them the most coverage and go from there... the more ppl seeking "sponsorships" (everyone and their grandma right now) the harder it is

I've allways heard from everyone i've talked to, that sponsorships are out of reach unless you've built a cover ride, or something that has been featured atleast 2 - 3 times. Then they come along a little easier... but like i said that's just what i heard, i've never applied for any sponsorships, because i seem to hear this alot.

I more or less asked the question about product placement more than the sponsorship side of it.
Im a marketing major and today we were talking about how companies place products in movies, tv, etc to sell their products. And like i always do i compair everything to trucks and brought about Overhualin and Pimp my Ride. A lot of people in the class said they would become more aware of the product cus of the exposure.
Some one out there is buying it up. Companies are begging to get put on tv.

I mean anyone doing to purchases. Shops, Wholesale, consumer.
Like Mike said, Companies are trying to get the best coverage. It seems TV is HUGE right now.
There is a reason that SD.com "owns" the 1st seven pages of MT.
You can put magazine Coverage into the mix. Every Magazine on the counter as SEMA Coverage in it. Yes, its mainly for people in the trade, BUT the coverage reaches JOE BLOW Consumer.

So everyone is not buying them from Magazines ads and or TV shows. Is it safe to say that all purchases are made strictly on word of mouth.
.. I you heard that a product was good from someone, then they had to have found out about the product some how...
