So i think i got a 4spd in my yota, but i hear 4spds only came in the earlier hilux models. If i shift through the gears it has 4 and it seems like 5th is either not there or something isnt allowing it to shift through. Can anyone tell me if the 4spds were available in the 89-95s?
yes they did, i believe it was an option in 89. they are rare to come by but they made them. my buddy had an 89 with a 22r and a 4 speed in it. i have a 4speed tranny if you need one..
I don't think toyota made a 5spd automatic transmission for any pickup.
They made the A43D for the early trucks which is control by oil pressure.
And A340E for the late model, which is control by a microcomputer.
Those two are th only two automatic transmission made for the 2wd 4cyl. Even the V6 were all 4 speed.
there is no difference between the lengths and widths on 4spd and 5spds. Only difference is the tranny mounts are slightly back farther on 5spd. There is a big difference between the auto and manuals though as far as length.
^^^ quinn is correct, there is small differences in trannys as far as the housing shape goes, you could mock everything up with the 4 speed and the 5 could be swapped without any problems. ive swapped both in my truck a couple times.
I didnt see this thread till now, but what is said above is true. The only difference in the automaic & manual tranny is the length-the automatic is longer.
