im no where near 100% sure but id imagine its the switch the send the hot water from the engine into the radiator to cool off. so u have a constant flow

tells the computer how rich to make the fuel coming in. it will run rich until the thermostat opens and allows the hot water in the radiator and then it leans out the system to get better mileage.

The temp switch you guys are thinking of is the green one in the side of the intake manifold.
The one in the bottom of the radiator is connected directly to the PTC Heater Relay to cut on the heater under the carb if radiator coolant temp is below 63 degrees F. This info comes directly out of the Factory manual.
The actual coolant control in all 93 and earlier mazda pickups is done by the thermostat, even in new cars this is the primary device for coolant control although many of your newer cars have secondary pumps that kick on after the engine is off to reduce heat soak temperatures.
