Has anyone done research into the legality of aftermarket/billet steering wheels mainly with vehicles that came originally equipped with airbags? Also, the same question for insurance policies for removing a factory eqiupped airbagged steering wheel.

1.) i dont think most cops would know of a violation that they would even be able to cite you with
2.) dont tellthem.

I'm more worried about getting in a wreck after I've removed the airbag and the insurance dropping me because I removed a safety device.

Anyone with first hand knowledge of this?

back b4 i got my B.A.D. a few years ago, I had heard about it being illegal remove a wheel equipped with an airbag, and replace with one that isn't. But thats it, i just HEARD.... from some unreliable sources. Just check with ur local law-makers, it'll take them a while b/c they THINK they know-- but make sure they read up and show you in writing the exact laws. every minitrucker should just take time to get a copy of the exact laws in your area, memorize them, keep 'em in ur glove box, etc... It'll come in handy next time Johnny Law pulls you over mike

if you wanted to keep it fairly legal you could let your insurance know that it doesn't have an airbag anymore. I'm pretty sure you just get a discount for your car having airbags.

if only you got a discount for your truck having 4 extra. haha

As far as I know, it is illegal for a repair shop to remove a factory air bag without the intent of replacing it. If caught, the shop would be the party that gets punished. You might wanna double check for accuracy though.

Yeah, if only we got that discount x4. LOL

To be honest, I'm not worried as much about the legality as much as I am the insurance thing. I guess the safest way would be to make a call.

certain states do have laws which prohibit shops from removing factory airbag or srs systems, but if you do it yourself, it is legal. i have no idea why, something about the liability issue to the shop. and as far as insurance companies go, some may care, but the vast majority will not. airbags have pros and cons and most insurance companies will not differentiate your policy.

I really wouldnt be worried about the law. just be worried about how much its going to hurt when your face smashes into it when you get in to a wreck...
