should be 40. it is possible the stock regulator is limiting flow enough to raise the fuel pressure and pump extra gas in there... I did not mean to discount that theory earlier. Its just not very likely.

And you can have a fair sized coolant leak in the cylinder without having contaminated oil. So make sure you arent losing coolant.

WHITE SMOKE CAN HAVE BE CAUSED BY FUEL MIXTURE........although normally black when rich, a high concentration of unburnt fuel in the catalytic converter can cause white smoke. another factor may simply be oils on the exhaust tubing or another chemical that came into contact with the exhaust. Although those oils will burn off, they may take awhile to do so. On a bseries 1990 mazda, you would almost surely see a coolant leak outside the cylinder head if you had blown a head gasket, so i would doubt that it is a head gasket that is the culprit. (not discrediting anyones prior posts, i'm just saying from my viewpoint and my experience)anyways, check the coolant level to be sure it is adequate, the engine may also be running warm. If the white smoke is consistant on both hot and cold starts, you may have bottom end trouble. you should be able to pick up a fuel regulator at autozone, checkers etc for around 9 bucks.

I agree, the head of the 2.6 CAN crack and not mix coolant and oil, only coolant and exhaust.
