check engine code

I got a check engine code(1992 22re) for a egr system fault. Anyone have any tips for things to look for in the egr system? The damn egr valve is expensive. I want to see if it could be another piece of the system before I buy a new valve. The engine idles high all the time. When the idle does come down I have real bad throttle response and a choppy idle.....help please........

the idle adjuster thing.....its a little vacume on the left side.....i need one too...that bitch is 180 bucks......and i cant seem to find one in a junk yard.....

but mine does the up and down idle...and when i hit my brakes it idles lower and faster....but i unplugged the throttle sensor and it stop....but the bitch idles high....so i think thats whats wrong.....where can i get one cheap....i now denso makes aftermarket parts bu there still high..???any one got one lying around they want to sell me????
