First Gen S10 Engine HELP

OK I have an 88 s10 with the 2.5 maunal trans
I got it bodydropped a few months back...the guy added an electric fan
I had no dash or gauges in the truck til I started playing with it today.
The check engine light doesnt come on when I turn the key over and start it
But as soon as I turn my lights on my check engine light comes on and my water gauge goes crazy.The gauge cluster is from a 93' v6 auto s10..
It doesnt seem to be running rough,hot or anything wrong at all.
Is there some wiring crossed somewhere or is it the gauge cluster? if so Im assuming I need one from my year with my motor?
