2001 ford expedition "waking up" GEM

Does anyone know how to wake up the gem on a 2001 expedition? I tried pulsing the dome light and pulsing the yellow/black drivers door ajar wire, but that didn't work. I was going to pulse the door trigger wire at the keyless module (lt blue/white) however, it read 12 volts when open, 8 volts when closed, and 12 volts when the gem goes to sleep. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
