90-94 pu/4runner head gaskets

My step dad is about to buy a 94 4runner,after doing some research we found out that it blows head gaskets after 50,000miles,i checked with a few friends,they said that they made a new head gasket to fix the problem....just wondering if anyone has had this problem??
