03 stock s10 airdam,is it paintable?

I just traded my xtreme valance for a stock 03 s10 front airdam and i noticed it has like a real rough texture to it. Can it be sanded down and painted or do oyu have to buy a smooth one to have it painted?? I know i seen them painted all the time but i didnt know if you had to have a specific type to have it painted or it could be smoothed down an painted easily
