98 s10 body drop

im planning on doing a traditional body drop on my 98 sdime extended cab,what i plan to do is lay the frame flat out,cut the cab floor and drop it down to where the body touches the ground when the frame does,is this a good idea,i dont have access to a lift,and have not done this before,i bought a welder and a plasma cutter just to do this job,and to shave everything,another ? on the drop is do i have to do anything with the steering column shorten it with the body drop,any help would be greatly ppreciated,thanks
