rear proportioning valve, tensioner?(97 taco)

im helping a buddy of mine bag the back of his taco and we need to move the rear brake proportioning valve. theres a rod attatched to it that goes to the rear end. and the way we plan to move everything we need to remove it. can we take it off, leave the valve and have no problems?
