using one valve on a 3 way

i have 3 way aro valves and like all aro valves do, it leaked really bad into the cylinder. to correct the problem, i added seperate fill valves and rigged the aros to just dump. anywho, worked great except now they are slow as hell dumping. and if i try to dump one side (to do a lil side 2 side action) itll only dump like 1/2 way and then close. whats the deal? anybody know how to correct this problem without replacing the valves?
