Accumulators for Hydraulic setups

Ive heard that accumulators make a juiced ride nice and comfortable. My question is, can you run a setup with just accumulators and no springs, and if so how does it ride.

Or do you still need to run springs, and the accumulators just keep it from bouncing around so much.
