Steering box has play in the steering wheel.
Tried to find a rebuilt one. No luck.
Any ideas where I can find one?
Or is there a way to adjust the steering gear box to remove some of the play?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx.
According to Chiltons ( 8578 ) - 1970 - 1988 toyota trucks ( manual steering gear ) Adjustments to the manual steering gear are not necessary during normal service. Adjustments are only performed as part of an overhaul.
Most american cars and trucks have an allen head screw with a set nut that you can tighten a little to clean up the slop. I never had this problem with any of my Toyotas so I don't know if they have an adjustment. Also, have someone watch under the hood at the steering connections while you wiggle the wheel sie tyo side to verify that the slop isn't coming from worn steering gear like tie rods or crossover links.
