all ye mechanics

my truck is acting up! it will kinda cut off while i am driving. Its doesn't die it just feels like the timing is off. We have changed distributor cap, plugs, wires. Has anyone ever had this problem? and does anyone know how to read the service codes without a computer!!any help is greatly aprreciated!
