the check valve in my viair leader hose went bad, so i put a SMC check valve in line. but is the bad check valve slowing down any air coming through, can i drill it out? or is it not hurting anything?

the only thing i know a check valve is work so air dont leak back through the compressor. its meant to open in one direction when pressure is applied and then close as soon as pressure in that direction stops..... if its bad then its either not sealing well or is stuck open. at least thats the way i understand on how these work.

no, its the factory leader hose on my viair. i haven't touched it except to put a new SMC check valve on the end of it, since the one that is built into the hose stopped working and let air from the tanks run back through the compressor. i was just thinking that if the built in check valve got stuck slightly open instead of all the way open, it could be hindering the compressor from pumping at its full potential. so i thought i could just drill it out completely and rely solely on the SMC check valve that works.

i wouldnt touch it. If anything just replace the leader hose. You get to drillin on that thing and you risk getting shavings into the cylinder.

well i've already replaced the hose once, and the check valve went bad again. what if i took the hose off, drilled the valve out, and shot some compressed air through it until all the shavings came out? but i would need to make sure i got everything out cause it would eventually get into the valves.

I don't know how old your compressor is but you void the warranty when you remove the leader. if warranty is up then remove it and put on a new leader hose. I personally would not risk it. talk to lance at viair about replacing your hose. they came out with a new one
