how to remove shifter from housing

Ok...look down into the housing unit from the top where the shifter arm comes up through. Youll see what looks like a silver sleeve-here are pics of it below. You take that & using a pair of pliers you push down/turn that & it will pop out. There is a spring under it that puts alittle tension on it.
