gas is leaking...

the gas tank was moved to the back of the bed a couple of years ago and all the lines were extended. its a long story, but as of now one of the fuel lines coming right off the tank is extremely ghetto rigged. it lasted longer than i ever expected, but now gas is leaking out again, and i need to fix it the right way. i don't know much about this stuff, so all help is appreciated. here is what im working with...

and this is where the leak is...

what is the best way to fix this? can i get another fitting with fuel line connected to it, to screw back on to the hardline? do i have to replace the whole round thing on the tank (can't remember what its called) where all the fuel lines go in?

Kinda hard to see what I,m dealing with under the wrapped line, The hard line coming out of the sending unit from the tank connecting to that line, is that a flare fitting connecting to another hard line or rubber line? Was it originally a welded fitting to a hard line where the leak is?
A couple ideas, get a new metric flare fitting to a barbed hose if thats the type of connection thats used right there, might be a little tougher finding metric fittings at the local hardware, and double clamp a new section of EFI high pressure hose on and to the existing hard line, , if its a cracked fitting, you could remove that line, blow it out good, clean it good and silver solder it where its cracked. or boneyard searching and just replace it with a new line.

yea, sorry about that. i should have pulled the tape off, im just afraid it is going to make my problem worse. because i will need to drive it to find the parts im gonna need. but if i remember right, the hardline that comes out of the tank goes to a male thread, and a female fitting screws on to it and the efi hose was connected straight to the fitting. i don't know how it was connected, there wasn't a barbed peice coming off the fitting that the hose went on to (like you mentioned), but that sounds like what i need to replace it with.

do i need something like this? but in a metric size? how big is the diameter of the efi hose?

you can cut the shield off a factory fitting and use a hoseclamp. works very well. just get a new fitting from the junk or dealer.

You might unscrew it at the fittings shown and try a regular pipe thread fitting and see if it threads on to the fitting coming from the tank. Another idea, is the line where the fitting is wrapped, is that a hard line? if so you could cut the lines and remove the fittings on both sides of the hard line and use EFI hose as a splice and double clamp it. The EFI hose is just a higher pressure fuel hose, available in 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8", they a;lso have regular EFI style clamps better suited than the small hose clamps on there now, they are available at most any parts store.

the pressure hose on a 92 model is 5/16".

nook, the fitting that is wrapped is connected to the efi hose on the right, and screws into the hardline on the tank side.

i will try to find a fitting to replace the one that is wrapped up. on the barbed side of the new fitting, what is the best way to get the efi hose connected? use a hair dryer on the line so it will expand and then cram it on the barbed piece, then clamp it? and the female side of the new fitting needs to be metric?

replace the plastic back to the metal line under the cab with the rubber efi fuel line.

There are at lease two different sizes on those fittings,& they are metric. You will need to measure yours with a thread gauge. Got mine for braided line from a speed shop.
