Whats the diff. between a Hilux and a Pickup?

Is a hilux and a pickup the same thing? or is there any big differnces like size or anything? I want to know because a friend is looking into getting me a toyota pickup from japan.

Also does anyone know if they made pickups in japan or just hilux's?
