My supercharged Nissan broke for the 3rd time in 3 years. What a garage queen.
Time to get the old MM back on the road. It's been sittin' for 8 years w/minimal attention. Got rearended by a county cop and took it out of service. Fired right up, but the brakes were shot. Found a sister truck in the bone yard and this helped me get the brakes right. Changed the oil, new air filter, new plugs, fresh brake fluid and rr wheel cylinders and shoes, junk yard caliper on the front. Breezed thru state safety inspection, as soon as I got the horn unstuck. Emissions, that's another thing. High nox @25mph. Seafoam didn't help. Maybe some colder plugs will get it thru. Have to get by w/Nissan tags for now. Gotta get to work.
Been runnin' it now for 2 months. Leaks a cup of oil every 50 miles. Same as always. Valve seals, I figure, maybe some rr main. I'll get to that in the spring (got that sister truck to salvage, maybe its got good head metal). Once I get finished pickin' the bones of the doner truck the MM should be ready for another 100K (300K now, owned it since new).
Anyway, that's my story. Figured I better get over here and see if this site's still active. Real tired of the Nissan crowd. Shoud've bought a Raider. Oh, well, I've got lots of parts. Should be able to build a real nice rat. Not real concerned about minor dents and scrapes. Personality, ya know. Just swab it down w/Murphy's Oil Soap once a year or so and touch it up w/flat black paint. After I get it thru this last emissions I'll be exempt here in VA. Some parts will be coming off. Thinkin' Weber and headers. Should be fun.
I'll be around. Who's still out there?
Thanks guys. I've had this truck since new and its been the best I've ever owned. It's real beat at the moment, but mechanically in good shape. No real rust. Once I get this emissions test it'll be my last. Once the weather turns I'll get back to it. Colder plugs and an EGR cleaning are the next things I'll try.
One question tho. I've read online that retarding the timing could help. I've also read that advancing the timing could help. Retarding makes since to me. Anybody able to confirm?
