Last dyno pull was 540tq and 445hp.5th gear is weak.The first time i went wide open in 5th,the gears stripped.1rst thru 4th work,but the 3rd gear syncro is weak.I am on my 3rd tranny this year,but yes the gears can hold well over 350hp.
It is the original 4g64 bottom end with a 63 head.The bottom end is forged and displacement is 2.4.

So 5th is weak cause it's too long, and can rebuild tranny with stronger syncro's so it can take 400+?
You rebuild your own or just pick up a new one? It's rare to find any mm or d50's in the junk yard here.

I am sure new stock syncros and fixing whatever else thats worn will help shifting quite a bit.
The gears are strong.The weak point is the front bearing case.The case will allow the gear sets to spread.
I have been swapping in used junkyard trannys.

Good info, you tried that method on swapping in the station guts in a mm trans? Read it on the zerog site. I can blow up my trans as soon as I find a new one. Gotta save for the r154 adapter plate, and a custom driveshaft, and a LSD rear end. The 98 6 speed trans compatible with the r154 supra trans?

I guess you could put the gears in but the case is the problem.The starion is as weak as the max.One could just put a starion tranny on the max block and use 4x4 master/slave.
I will keep using the mighty max trannys.I i do decide to go over 500hp i will just bolt in the super strong d50 auto.It is a torqueflite 904.

Not as fun going through the gears though. Forgive if I'm wrong but took a good look at the engine pic of yours, it's the 95 head with the cas on the intake cam gear vs in the back of the head where the 1gs have them. Also the coil packs are mounted different. Haven't quite figured out how and where to mount mines. How did you do the waterneck also? I used the 1.8 1g where it's at a good angle with the head saving an inch but yours is pointed up.

Its a 2g head and manifold.The gears are from a 94 galant made for the tall deck block.The cas is on the back of the head.The t-stat is a 1g with mighty max outlet.

That manifold looks like my talon with is a 2g and the gears looked like the gears with the hall sensor. I'm mistaken. Impressive build and insightfull owner. Glad you are here.

I would have liked to use the gear but i have a 6bolt and i didn't want to make something on the pump.
On this car i made a 2g oil pump and tdc sensor fit.It was too much work for my junk but the owner was happy.
