wheel offsets

what offsets are everyone running? is 4.5" good or too shallow? i gots an '02, bagged for 20's, but im gonna run 17 or 18 right now.

what size tire man? 4.5 will most likely be to shallow. 5.5 with 18x8 245/40/R18 was to shallow on the back of my Ranger, the front was ok.

ok, heres what i have planned, 17X8 255/40 , or 18X9 245/40. . im looking for a consensus.. ive seen other rangers with stock rims fitting nicely.
