9° off?

I went to check my timing today, read the tutorial on. Mazda truckin.com but in the editors picture showed his cam at 1 tdc and his harmonic balancer said 0° tdc. My timing says 10° tdc. Is this ok? My truck has been backfiring and spitting. This is the reason I checked my timing. Any thoughts?
