Burning plastic smell, now car doesn't run HELP!

so i was driving the other day and it started to smoke a little behind the steering wheel, so i pulled over and shut it down. Tried to start it a few minutes later and it runs only under the power of the starter (if that makes sense). as soon as i let go of the key it shuts down. whats going on?

you prob need a new ignition, my buddys 626 did the same thing. except he would try to start it and it wouldn't start then he let the key go and it kept trying to crank over, some times by itself.

Good guess. Test that ignition switch (the electrical part). The ignition key/tumblers should be OK.
