1990 B2600i se-5 4x4 rear drum removal help!

I've got my truck up on jacks currently, and I can't seem to be able to get the rear drums off.
I'm wondering if I'm missing a step or if they're just locked in place.
I took a couple screw drivers and backed off the pads with the adjuster on the back of the drum, but its still not budging.
the wheel spins freely but the drum is locked on, I've also tried freeing it up by hitting it with a rubber mallet in all the places that should make it move and yet nothing.
I'm currently immobile because of this and help would be greatly appreciated!

There are two Philips screws.. did you take those out? you take those out then there are two other bolt holes you can thread two bolts into to push the drum off.. just go evenly.

just to be specific...those holes are for an 8mm bolt with a 1.25 thread pitch...dont be suprised if the threads strip out. The drum is just really tight around the hub.

Spray a little rust buster around the hub wouldn't hurt either.

take the parking brake off....hahahahahahaha....i always use a dead blow hammer and tap it on the side all the way around till pops off...some times use some pb blaster if time allows but i leave everything to the last minute so chances are it might work good if i left my self enough forethought


the worst occurance i had of this was when i ground the tabs to run gm wheels...the axle stub and drum all got ground at once and the heat cylcing cause that beotch to fuse together that required a little heat from a propane torch and a bfh....

oh and those removal holes will take those phillips screws but i would use a hex and a little longer to clear axle stub... phillips arent long enough....

yeah i wouldnt use the screws us a bolt and ratchet itll bull that puppy off a lot easier, just stick two bolts in the removal hole and take a ratchet to them little at a time smack the drum with a hammer and repeat till its loose. if u use the srews to remove it ull be fighting it a lot longer

stupid question, is your e brake engaged? if it's tight then you aren't gonna get those drums off.

You need bolts about 30mm long, and 8.0 x 1.25mm thread. Taht's what I've always used on my '88 2WD rear drums, with no issues.

If your brake drums are real worn, best to back off the brake shoes manually through the slot in the backplate before doing this.
