83 sundowner wont start after head gasket change...HELP

Yeah it's the cream colored truck... haven't even gotten to drive it yet but from the barn to the garage. I can't wait to get it running!!!! I lined up the timing mark for tdc on the crank, put the timing mark on the cam gear at 12 "o clock.... that's how i was told to set it up... but my chiltons says something about counting 44 links in the timing chain but it doesn't say between what? I'm lost here guys

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody that helped out in ressurecting my old dawg! She's back to throwing sparks like she should!
