freeze plug?

what would cause the freeze plug(?) on the side of the engine to pop out half way? i took a socket that was the same size and hammered it back in.. im talkin about the 4 plugs on the exhaust side, it was the one closest to the front of the engine..

being of uneven size and psi may make it pop out.... did it freeze any time lately and maybe push it a little?
