bringin a motor back to life

my truck has been sitting for abt 3 years and im looking to get it back on the road. im wondering what kind of work it will take to get my engine back running.. i kno there are a lot of variables involved here but i can tell you the emissions were takin off abt 1500 miles before it was parked, it had regular oil changes and i never had a problem with it overheating. there are only abt 63,000 miles on the truck. basically im looking to find out what it will take to get my engine back in tip top shape. im already looking into getting a weber carb and a pacesetter header, im lookin for advice on wether or not i should rebuild the whole motor. thanks

when you parked it how well was it running/driving? if it was running and driving with no probs id change ALL the fluids, fuel filter, and thermostat....... new battery and give her some life

I wouldnt rebuild the engine unless tests prove that it needs to be done. First thing you need to do is just pull the plugs and clean them up. Make sure you are getting sufficient spark. pour a little gas in the carb and turn her over. if she fires up, then i would replace the plugs if needed. do the tune up on it ofcourse. oil and filter change. check the belts and grease the fittings. Drain gas out of tank and replace with new. put a new fuel filter in as well. Once you get to this point you should be running fairly well. If its a b2000 then i would lash the lifters as well. The truck was running fine when i parked it. im going to have to pull it to change the clutch and clean up the engine bay any way so i figured if theres anything drastic i need to do then this would be the time. but im glad that it wont be too drastic.
