quick question on distributor cap

which is the number one terminal on the distributor cap??? the book doesnt show a good shot of it my cap has like a post with a cap on the top of it between plug terminals which one is the number one terminal the one on the top or bottom of that post thanks

It all depends on how your distributor is indexed.
However it was designed to have #1 closest to the vacuum advance, or the terminal that is located counter clockwise of the vent cap.

Number one spark plug has a lead.
That is the plug closest to the front of the engine.
That lead should go to number one on the distributor.
Unless you pulled all your wires.
Firing order is 1-3-4-2
Under normal circumstances, both the vacuum advance and post one are located at the front. (9:00)
