If it turns over fine when the trans is off then it sounds like its the trans and not the motor thats your prob.......sounds like you have an automatic? If so make sure its in neutral. I know you said you have it jacked up but it could still be a prob. check to see if it spins when not bolted to the motor.

AHH HAH! Now we may be on to something. I wasn't aware that it mattered. How can I find the right location?

I checked the manual and the only thing it tells is the distance from the front of the converter to housing clearance...something like 2.13 inches. It gives no mention of a plate/TC bolt order.
I did push the converter back and turned it to be sure that it was seated before I put the engine back in. It would seem that when the flywheel was bolted to the TC it would be at the proper distance wouldn't it?

here is an odd update I completley removed the top 2 motor/trans bolts an loosened the 2 lower ones and now it is no longer locked...I went ahead and put the 2 remaining torque converter bolts in. I still am not sold on having an alignment problem just yet. I just wonder what it will do when I put all the bolts back in that mate the two together?
