Grounding out the Head Unit

yeah i know how it should be wired but what is wierd is the deck ran without the ground being hookup

I ground mine right to the metal bracket that bolts the radio box thing to the chassis. I scratched off the paint to get to the bare metal and put a ring terminal under the bolt.
