If I'm not mistaken, the camshaft should have a "key" that the sprocket aligns to. Should be obvious...

Heres a link to help retime your truck:

hey guys, well good news doesnt look like any bent valves or anything major. switched out the cam sprocket and cover from my junked mazda and all good. The time check link HeX0rz posted was a great reference. Ill post pics of the shattered cam sprocket and broken timing cover.

Hey man I'm just curious if your motor still seems fine?
My cambelt snapped a few days ago (2ltr also) and I remember reading how yours went ok after you replaced the broken bits.
The motor was put together using a 97 block and a 94 head, does anyone know if all the motors were non interference including the Ford Courier motors?
I've replaced my belt, redone the timing and it seems to be running fine without any smoke but I'm sure I have a lifter sound that I didn't have before.
Power seems roughly the same but I'm hesitant to thrash it or sit at motorway speed for extended times just in case I do need to replace the head or something.
Thanks man
