I don't know if anyone is paying attention, but I'm going to help my son build a b series for his first vehicle. I've got a line on several parts vehicles(Don't really see the point of buying a running one when we are going to change so much). But looking at craigslist there is a 89 mx-6 gt turbo with a bad timing belt. it is the 2.2l. Is that the same as the 2.2 in the trucks? What that be a decent swap for a little more razzle dazzle and umph?
I don't think it's the same. Might be the same block but that's it. I think that's a pretty common swap. The KIA FE3 is another common swap also.
I'm about to buy a truck that has a Mazda 2.2 Turbo in it.
you could always go with a carbed V8. seems like one of the most straight forward swaps. Wiring wouldn't be that bad but you would need a driveshaft shortened and some motor mounts made, possibly a stronger rear end. I'm planning on putting an LT1 in this winter.

I think he's wanting some decent mileage.
Huskerdually - If you're wanting good mileage go with some sort of turbo 4 banger. They drop a few mpg's if you get on it and boost alot but they'd be great for cruisin. Definitely have some power there when it's needed.
Oh he don't need that much power. But I think we're piecing this together from a bunch of different vehicles to get what we want. ext cab, 4x4 sheetmetal and reg cab bed. So I'm probably gonna need a good motor and I seen this entire car on craigslist close to me and didn't know if it would be a fairly straight forward swap.
My 88 mazda had a 460 in it back in like 95, had to give it up for the family.
I'm pretty sure the hardest part about the swap is going to be the wiring. But that could be made pretty simple with wiring diagrams for both vehicles.
Congrats on building a truck with your son. I'd kill if my dad and I could build on together.
The wiring shouldn't be that bad if you use standalone fuel management such as megasquirt. There is some thread out there with details about the turbo swap. I will keep my eyes open. I think you will also have to go with edis ingnition and go distrubutorless because of the firewall. You can find the motors in the early ford probes i believe. someone correct me if i am wrong or point out the thread I am talking about.

But is the 89 mazda mx-6 turbo motor going to work. I will have the entire car so I should have most the parts I assume.
It should. But because it is out of a front wheel drive the dizzy will hit the fire wall. I will look for that thread for you. I think i have it on my favorites at home. A lot of people have done the MX-6 swap so you should be able to do it.

Well here is the thread I was thinking of off the MX-6 forum. It explains it better than I. Hope this helps.
