Because it was suggested to me that it could be a weak coil that makes spark but not a hot enuff spark and since it takes more power to make a spark under compression it seemed feasible and its cheap enuff to give it a shot. Not only is the timing belt not broken the timing marks are all still lining up

As he stated before the ether test was done along with seeing the fuel in the carb while cranking it over. The ignition coil took a dump on my 98 chevy also, was running then poof....dead. Had fuel and compression and also showed spark while testing the plug outside of the cylinder. Once the plug was installed no fire.
