^what he said^

I have learned the hard way twice... Well once, I guess I didn't learn the first time.

the hoses dint get hot. they were a little warm but I'm guessing that's just from the engine heat. where should I start to look. thanks for the write up on the dash removal just incase I have to dig in there.

Like I said, my solution was to pull the dash and unplug the heater core. So, unfortunately for you, my advice is pull that dash.

Check your upper rad hose. Start the engine cold, and note how long it takes before the upper rad hose gets warm, this is when the thermostat opens. Shouldnt get warm untill the temp gauge is reading at least 1/4 into the normal range (if temp gauge is working). I had a simmilar issue on my 88 B, had a new thermostat in it, but my temp gauge didnt reach the normal area on temp gauge, unless I was pulling a huge load, had no heat, couldnt even defrost my windows and my rad was 100% blocked off with cardboard up against rad. My upper rad hose was warm within 5 minutes of starting the engine when cold (below freezing), turns out my new thermostat was opening at a way too low temperature, preventing the engine from ever warming up. Replaced thermostat, and the upper rad hose didnt get warm untill temp gauge was about 1/4 up, and i had super awesome heat lol. I figured that out in march, when winter was over though

First: is your replacement one a 192/195F thermostat, or a cooler one? Should be 192/195F if you want decent heat (even for summer use).

You checked the lower and upper radiator hoses? Both were hot?

Did you check the heater hoses at the firewall? Were they hot?

the firewall heater houses are not hot. I didn't check the bottom radiator house. I'll do that now. if that's not hot what is the problem

the bottom house is not hot. it feels like nothing warm has even been through there
