so i put new wheel bearings in and new races and seals and adjusted them. some people say that the front should have no play at all and some say they should have just a wee bit just to ware the wheel dont move but a small clunk sound but no noticeable movement...witch is best? i have mine adjusted to ware u can just barley feel it move just a hair but not locked down tight it sorta makes a little clunk or pop sound and spins just fine but not stiff

i was told to tighten it up to where the hub won't turn and then back it off a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. but I was told that many moons ago.

The manual says to tighten it to a specific torque then use a scale to pull on a single stud to verify the tension is about 2lbs when the wheel begins to turn.

I can scan the section tomorrow if needed. Dan

Yes, you need a tiny amount of play in the front wheel bearings.

I've always tightened it to where there is no movement, then backed it off until you can get a single revolution out of it--usually 1/4-1/2 turn of the nut. Done this on vw's, trailers, cars etc.
