Sorry bro - I'm not going to use up my "favors" on supplying everyone else with tires.

Anyone got ideas for making the center caps work on these wheels? They've got the plastic "fake" lug nuts that thread onto the actual lug nuts... Only I can't use the chevy lug nuts. I guess that might be my solution - upgrade to 14x1.5 studs.

Mark,

The chromies really woke that truck up!

Here is my

on installing the caps. I had a '93 Caprice wagon that I had a set of 20" Budniks that I ran in the nice weather months and I had a set of chrome 454SS truck wheels I wanted to use on the car for the winter. I refused to run the wheels without caps, so here's what I did.....

I took a set of 12mm lugnut covers (i.e. most all GM cars), ground the tops off of them (the hex part) and just stuffed them inside the 14mm lugnut caps. They are pretty much a friction fit, but if you wanted to silicone them together for a little bit of insurance I don't see why it would hurt. I wish I had pics of the process, but I don't.

If it's not clear on what I'm talking about, give me a holler and I can talk you through it. Specifically the 12mm GM lugnut covers I used were off of a Firebird and of course the 14mm lugnut covers were off of a Chevy pickup. Hope it works out for you!

Whats up Rahn... Thanks for the suggestions! I get what you're saying, and I was trying to wrap my brain around a similar idea. I'll get this dilemma taken care of this weekend - if I can manage to wrangle enough spare time after blocking and priming my other project.

Might have found the easier way around this center cap issue:

Here's a 12mm x 1.5 double threaded GM lug nut..

And here's the corresponding plastic cover:

Question remaining: Will those plastic covers work on the big truck center caps?

I guess I may not have explained far enough. You will definitely need the double threaded nuts like that but I'm just guessing that the lug nut covers are still going to be too big, hence the need to fit the 12mm ones inside the ones for the truck covers. You may have to do a little "tweaking" to get them to work just right.

Good luck my friend and keep us posted on how it turns out!

the truck looks sweet for sure. i love those wheels for some reason. are your tires rubbing the inside of the bed when its layed out? im sittin here lookin at mine and thinkin im gonna have to get a pathfinder rear end so mine wont scrub when its layed out. that or flare the bedside a little cuz i refuse to run 4x4 metal.

They sure are... I didn't realize the sidewall was rubbing the inside of the bed until I took it out for a spin, and layed it out at 30 MPH. I couldn't decide if the smell was burning rubber or paint. Turns out it was both! I now have proof that I've driven it layed out.

Time to take a break on this project... Well, at least until the 4 link and shock relocation brackets arrive.

I will be pushing forward with my other major project - 1965 Beetle (Ragtop, 2" tranny raise, 6" narrowed front end, 1776cc drawthrough turbo).
