How the hell do you take off the shifter? Does it thread off? I tried twisting it but i felt like i was going to break it so i stopped.

The shaft on the manuel shifter. I wanna replace it with a taller one.

take off the boot around the shifter so you can see the gearbox from inside the cab. you should see two or three bolts (i cant remember how many) arond the base of the shifter undo them and pull the stick out
