TO KEEP SHEETMETAL OR NOT TO KEEP? HELP!

Okay, so here is my current Sheetmetal Dash:

My question to you guys is whether or not to keep it? I have just recently gotten discouraged by it for many a reason! One of the reasons is that it is not flush with the door jamb line where the original dash would be, but at first I was not worried! So, I am in a pickle! I wouldn't mind just wrapping my stock dash and painting all the trim pieces to accent it or vise-versa. Or should I get a new dash rebent so that it is in contour of the door jamb line and continue down the path of sheetmetal?

So PLEASE, let me know what I should do?

This is what the dash looks like to date, with the steering column hole:

A sheet metal dash could be kool! But, I don't agree with the lines that you currently have. Do you plan on having gauges of some type? Can't recall, do you have a welder and welding skills? If so, multiple facets to the dash might look better than 1 sheet. Another option that I was gonna explore was to strip alot of the plastic off the stock dash frame, then start over with sheet metal. This would give you many good mounting points and a good place to weld to.
Sorry, just my .02

Don't be sorry man, I am asking for ideas? Anyways, I don' t agree with the lines either and yes there will be gauges and I do have a welder and welding skills. I like your idea....

I think that the sheetmetal will look sweet, but when I look at it it just seems like there is something missing. I think that having a rounded piece like in a old bel air or something in front of the driver and passenger that flows down into the center console would look pretty cool, but thats just my .02 cents.

personally bro, i like it. i wanted to do something very similar to that before i customized my stock dash. i would put all the gauges on the downward slope before it goes straight down, if you have the cash i would go with digital gauges, install a few switches and a t.v. with a ps2 on the part that goes straight down and you got a killer dash.

i like it though man. looks good.

Well, I think I have made a decision!

I believe that I am going to smooth out my stock dash and wrap it in tweed and then accent it will the exterior paint color on the trim pieces!

I will keep the sheetmetal dash and re-work it a little-bit and yes there will be gauges, LCD screen, and much more....

I just know that it is going to need a ton of work to get the dash the way I want it with molded gauges and paint looking smooth....I would rather spend a little extra cash and wrap the stock dash and keep it looking clean for the debut at DROPZONE 2007!

And then someday when it is painted and looking clean I will slap it in and "KEEP ON DRAGGIN"

Thanks for all your help, and I really have taken it all in! And after all it is my truck, so what makes me happy is the way to go!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
