Why body drop?

This may be a dumb question, but what is the purpose of doing a body drop? Is it so it eliminates the gap between the rockers and the ground because without it there will be a space there with the frame on the ground. Or is it so the suspention works like it does without being lowered but gives the appearance of being lowered?

Brings the body down over the frame.
