coilover question

I know this subject is probably ran into the ground, but does replacing front shocks with coilovers really have to be that complicated? There's a guy on here who built a drift truck with a 350, and in the rear he just built a bracket for something to mount the tops to. The bottommounted in the stock location from what I understand. Can the same concept not be carried over to the front? May be a dumb question but I don't see why it has to be as complicated as all my research on the matter indicates that it is.

Howdy rjl,
I'd suggest doing a write up on how you'd like to achieve it from your research and get some input.
It's a torture test, on here you should get lots of reasoned feedback so don't be afraid. (they won't be torturing you, just your ideas)
I'd love to see the thread evolve.
(Torture test doesn't sound very pc does it. lol)

okay so here is jc50942's coilover setup in the rear, which is what sparked the idea. His whole build thread is along the lines of what I want to do anyways, and his disc brake conversion is a great idea and simple enough. I believe he says he just welded the bracket to the frame, and the bottom hooked up in the stock location. I was just wondering if this same methood could work on the front. It'd be nice to ditch the torsion bars. I'm going for a sports truck type deal, something that handles really well. Hopefully this clarify a bit. If this would work, I could just buy the coilover and have a buddy make and weld in the brackets.

BTW thanks for not calling me a noob or saying it's a stupid question, I just thought it could be a good idea. Haven't seen Too many rude posts on here, it's quite civilized compared to other forums. I just saw a lot of people wanting coilover in the front, and it just seemed like a simple solution.

Ive actually been thinking about doing the same thing to my mazda. Ditch the torsion bars. I dont see why it wouldnt work.

Me either. Lol.I just wanted some feedback from someone who may know something I dont before I start welding stuff in, since it's my DD.

get on QA1's website...tell them what you want as far as lenght and what not(depending on how low you are) an get some from them and bolt them right into place.

Ahh yeah. Probably not the best idea to start cutting into the dd yet lol. My mazda is one of my 40 toys lol so i dont have that same issue. Im actually thinking about doing the rx7 irs swap too. Well just because i got an extra early 90s rx7

i recall skeptical opinions about whether the stock shock towers up front are capable of supporting the front end weight, as that's what the torsion bars actually do up there.
