i had that same problem with both of my mazdas. i found a lot of built up gunk on the actual sending unit inside the tank. i cleaned it up and it fixed the problem like a lot of people have mentioned already.
hocbj23- he is talking about just switching the sending unit and not the fuel pump because the 2200 have a mechanical one on the motor. im not familiar with the 2600s but if the pump is mounted with the sending unit, there might be an issue with swapping them.

yeah,my truck has over 200 000 original miles on it and it's 20 years old,so I don't doubt the crap build up.
I have a rebuilt sending unit in kermit,maybe I could swap that out. That was done in June.
Andrew...I only have standard cab beds. I have the one on kermit,and I have the burgundy one at Lance's. You have an ext cab though dont you?
