Does anyone know if there is some kind of "weep hole" on the 2.2 oil pumps? I've replaced the front main seal on this truck 3 times and oil is still comming from that area. I know that there is a weep hole for the water pump, when water comes from there you know you've got a bad water pump. Anyone?

No there is no weep hole for the oil pump. What front seal have you changed 3 times. There is 2 one on the cam and one on the crank. One time my cam one went bad and it leaked down and made it look like the crank one. There is also a gasket between the head and the part the Dis slides into. that has oil running through it and can leak.

Yeah, It's the lower one I've replaced 3 times.

then I would try the top one on the cam same seal as the crank one

sounds like your crank may be gouged and not holding the proper seal...how many miles on the engine??

What weight oil you run? I popped the front seal on my 92 right after rebuilding it. The oil was cold and my son started it up and pop out it came. So i wonder if its got to thick of oil or if you dont have enough crank case vent? When you changed it the last time did the seal look bad or did it look ok?

Dont think I have ever replaced a crank seal on a Maz,but have replaced o ring gaskets on the dist more than once and also leaky pan gaskets.Might try cleaning the engine real good with GUNK or something similar and see if u can pin down where the leak is coming from.bj

as todd said, it could be the crank or the seal/bearing surface that is gouged, allowing oil to seep past the seal, or like dirtracer said & your not getting enough ventilation in the crankcase.....if you do have to pull the seal out again, try using some very fine sand paper on the surfaces, then clean it out real good, then use some permatex on the seal when you install it, also double check to make sure the pcv is working properly, it would be a shame if a $5 part was causing you the agrivation of replacing the seals.

if it leaks after that, you'll need probably need to tear into the engine and find the source...probably needs line honing and the crank& bearing surfaces polished.

one other thought.2200's are known to bend or break the Woodruff key holding the crank pulley on the crank snout.If so the pulley will wobble just a tad and cause prematurebearing and seal wear.Might check that as well.You can look at the crank pulley with the engine running and checkfor wobble.BJ
