O.K., here's the deal. My new b was smoking real bad when I bought it, and I just assumed it was valve seals. But after toolin around here a bit, I thought it would be a good idea to check my rings out while I had the head off. Good news - rings and cylinders are in great shape. Bad news - rod bearings, 1 o.k., 2 iffy, 1 shot. Don't mind replacing them, but that brings up the ugly question - main bearings? I have always found that the rod bearing tend to take a beating and the mains are usually good, but what have y'all found. This $600 wonder is making my head ache, I wanna be drivin' by next week, and still have to put it all back together, figure my carb b.s. out, and somehow get through aircare (emissions testing).
WHAT DO YOU THINK? MAINS WORTH CHECKING, OR FUDGE IT?
Several options.Go to a 20-50 Castrol or equivalent oil,use only a Maz filter,go up one heat range in plugs and set timing back one degree.Drive easy on the engine and it may last another few thousand miles. If your mains do let go however, there is a good chance ur engine will be toast.Drive it like it is until the mains fail completely and then replace-see toast above.Lol.BJ
