yeah when i re-did my headgasket I had the dis off horrible so I flipped it 180 degees and it fired up,

get a timing light and there are 2 marks, there should be a lil rod by the fly wheel that is hanging out, get the the timing light and adjust it so those marks line up, this helped me dramatically with my truck and it runs beautifully.

If i rember correct the pre 84 2.0 is nothing like the post 86 2.0 nothing about them is the same. If you dont already go get a book for your truck. If you have a book then read it over a few times.

okay todat i bumped the motor so that #1 was at tdc. I installed the distributor so that the rotor faced #1 and it tried to fire more than it has been, so i turned the dist. and it started backfiring through the carb. so i'm thinking maybe i have 180 out.

Ok when you have your number 1 TDC make sure its on its power stroke the way i do it is i turn the motor till i see the intake valve open and close then the next time the number 1 is up thats the power stroke.

Do you have to take the valve cover off to check for this.

finally got everything set the way it is supposed to be and it runs!!!!!!
