Heres what I have I'll give a little background to start off. I pulled my motor the first part of January to start rebuilding it. Everything in the motor is brand new I have around $1,500.00 in it. I set the motor in back in april then bought a house and have had a ton of other stuff to work on so it sat. Anyways yesterday I finally got my battery and fuel cell hooked up and I tried to start it. I ended up having the number 2 and 3 plug wires on backwards. Stupid mistake but things happen. The problem I have now is when I start the truck it runs for a second nice and smooth then kinda backfires through the intake and blows gas out the carb. It won't stay running. I pulled the valve cover and timing belt cover and double checked the timing stuff and it's all ok. My motor has a weber carb on it and no emmissions crap so it's a pretty simple set up. I'm thinking it's a problem with the carb dumping too much gas in the motor but I just need some other opinions. Thanks for any help in advance
make sure your dizzy is in straight, and make sure you have that vacume line from the dizzy to the carb.. i'm kinda stumped tho.. wierd.
I found the problem it's the weber carb. Just out of curiosity I took it off and checked the float inside and it was way off. I set it to the specs and put it back on and now it runs better but the carb keeps flooding with gas. I had it reved up and gas started pouring out the carb in that little space in front of where the air goes in. I don't know what it's called so that's my best description. When you are standing in front of the truck it's on the front of the carb. I guess I'll take it to a carb shop and have them take a look at it.
hey boss,
i just saw you were having a problem with the weber. i saw you said you put a fuel cell in, are you still running a stock fuel pump, or a new electric?
if the carb is flooding, you may have too much psi going into the carb, a weber only needs 3.5-4.0 psi, otherwise you will flood the fuel bowls..
Well I took the carb to a local carb shop and for $40.00 they got it all straightened out. I am running a stock fuel pump so I knew the pressure was ok. I'm not sure what ended up being wrong with the carb since the guy that repaired it wasn't there when I picked it up. But when I talked to him on the phone and told him the problem I was having he said it was a very simple fix. I took the truck out for a drive tonight and it runs very strong. This is the first time since the end of december that I have driven it. All I can say is it was nice.
